Create a Community Center

A New Proposal. A Better Idea.

The Criglersville Elementary School site (CES) is a vital part of the history of our County. It sits in the northwest part of Madison near the confluence of the Robinson and Rose Rivers. It's a valuable public asset that deserves to have a future commensurate with its past. Our Community has proposed that--instead of turning it over to a private developer at a price subsidized by local taxpayers--we revitalize the school and repurpose it in a way that brings benefits to the citizens of Madison County, today and for many years to come. We have asked the County Board of Supervisors for the opportunity to make the CES site the home of a much needed county Community Center.

Social & Communal Space

The RRCC would provide much needed space for local organizations, clubs, arts, fitness, and education.

Public Fishing Access to the Robinson River

Fishing is a way of life here. Young and old come out daily to enjoy our local rivers. RRCC would create new access points to this beautiful Heritage Trout river.

Community Garden & Park

RRCC envisions landscaping the rear acreage of the property as a park, including a community garden where neighbors can work together to grow food and flowers for community use. Garden harvests can provide food for residents in need, as well as flowers for the historic Shiloh Cemetery

Tutoring & Education Support

Our initial outreach to Madison citizens indicates that there is a high demand for a places where students and adults can come for educational enrichment. The RRCC would partner with educators to create learning spaces and resources.

Business & Education Center with Free High Speed Internet

Many residents in our area do not have adequate (or any) Internet access or cell service. As was painfully demonstrated during the pandemic, many of our children do not have Internet access sufficient for homework. We envision creating a small business & education center to give Madison County families a place they can come for WIFI access and other needed services.

History & Visitor Center

Criglersville is one of the main gateways to the Shenandoah National Park and recreational areas. It is also home to the Mountain Museum. The RRCC would serve as a resource hub for tourism, heritage & history education, local businesses and recreational opportunities in the region.

Classes & Workshops

Our County is full of talented people ready to share their skills with neighbors and visitors. Whether it's photography, music, cooking, or computer skills, the RRCC would be a place for exploration and fun.

Social Services

We are exploring what services County residents feel they need most. Ideas are emerging for how RRCC could enhance local resources for childcare, eldercare, health and wellness, and other social services.
